I was blessed to be in the audience on February 17, 2019, when The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan delivered the 2019 Saviours’ Day Convention address at the United Center in Chicago. The title of the message was “A Saviour is Born for the Whole of Humanity: No One Need Perish”.
In that message, The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan declared, “Elijah is my spiritual Father. You think he’s dead. I told you he’s alive. He’s at the Right Hand of The Father that made him! And from Heaven he communicates with me! He tried me and told me, “I’ll never teach another man like I taught Brother Malcolm until I thoroughly tried him.” Paul was one of the disciples but far above them. He never saw Jesus but he was communicating with Jesus from on high. That’s

where my food is coming from. I can stand here for hours. Ask me questions. I don’t care what it is you want to know. My Father knows and He feeds me. I’ve answered over 5,000 questions on Twitter and I’ve never known the questions in advance. I wait for my Father to feed me and whatever he tells me to say that I say! And whatever he bids me to do, that I do.”
I bear witness to this!
One of my most unforgettable phone calls I received from the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan was at the end of 2011. He was still mastering the art of answering questions from his Twitter followers in the then 140 characters or less limit.
Due to his hectic schedule, a few weeks had passed since he had answered any questions so there were a total of 50 awaiting his availability.
That particular night, I was sitting at my dining room table working. All of a sudden I hear a ringtone reverberating from my backpack that was set for the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan. I picked up the phone and sure enough the profile picture was that beautiful smile of his.
It was nearly 10:30 p.m. which meant it was 11:30 p.m. where he was calling from.
While snapping to attention out of my dining room chair as if my leader and teacher had just walked into my home, I

thought to myself, “Oh Allah...” then softly and joyfully answered, “As-Salaam Alaikum Brother Minister.”
He replies in a vibrant tone, “Wa-Laikum Salaam Brother Jesse! Did I wake you?”
I replied, “No sir! I was actually up doing some work. How may I be of service to you, Brother Minister?”
He said, “Oh brother, I feel so bad that I’ve gotten a little behind on answering the people’s questions. I’ve had a very busy schedule and a very long day of meetings and work, but I just couldn’t sleep peacefully knowing I let another day go by without knocking those 50 questions out. So, I’ll give you a minute or so to get your equipment out and let’s knock them out. Okay?” I said, “Yes sir!”
I muted the phone and while nervously pulling up the documented questions on my laptop and setting up my digital audio recorder--which I learned to keep on my person at all times since he joined Twitter--I was rapidly thinking, “Wow. It’s almost midnight where he is. He literally works night and day in the resurrection work. What manner of man is this?”
Within a minute, he says lovingly yet sternly, “Okay, let’s get started.”
Like all of the thousands he’s answered on social media, he didn’t know any of the questions in advance. He was knocking them out with such precision and again I was on

the phone bearing witness. Like others who are his students, I’ve heard the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan say over the years that someone could wake him up at 2 or 3 a.m. in the morning, tell him what the subject is and he’ll teach on it without any notes like no one has ever taught on it before. Here I was being blessed again to witness him answer questions on a plethora of subjects in a way that could only come from a feeding that he is receiving, like Paul, from On High.
Nearing the last ten or so questions, I noticed his voice started sounding a little raspy and the weight of the day understandably started to take its toll on him. I wanted to gently encourage him to get some rest, but I was too scared to interrupt him. Also, I got a crash course early on that once his mind is made up on something, nothing is going to stop
him from making his word bond.
He finished all 50 questions in under an hour and a half. He then said, “I feel much better and now I can go to sleep in peace. But, brother, I am a little concerned over some of my final responses being that I’m a little tired. So, this is what I would like to do. I have an early appointment in the morning so, Insha’Allah, I will call you in the morning around 5:30 a.m. your time. I will answer all fifty of them again and see how Allah uses me when I’ve gotten a little rest. Does that work for you?”
I replied, “Absolutely, Brother Minister!”

The next morning, I set up my equipment immediately after making Fajr prayer. My phone rang precisely at 5:29 a.m. CST. The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan’s energy level was so high as he answered all of the questions again while he was in transit to his appointment. This time he knocked them out in less than an hour just as he was pulling up to his destination.
Before getting out of the vehicle, he said, “Oh Brother Jesse, this has made my morning. What a blessing that Allah would use me as His Instrument to feed the people! I am so in awe of what Allah guides me to say in response to questions I do not know in advance. Let’s transcribe the ones from last night and this morning and then see which ones are best to send back to the questioners. There’s much in these answers for the questioner and everyone to feed on for years to come.”
I replied, “Allah-U-Akbar! Yes sir! I bear witness.”
He said, “You surely are a witness. Have a wonderful rest of your day brother. Let’s get some more work in.”

On the evening of September 26, 2012, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan held the first ever #AskFarrakhan Social Media Q&A. The youth were his focus during the townhall, which was filmed live in front of a studio audience at The Final Call Administration building in Chicago, IL, and broadcast to the world via internet webcast. An overflow crowd filled the adjacent Salaam Restaurant for people to

watch on television screens while watch parties were hosted on the campuses of Texas Southern University and Winston- Salem State University, both historically Black colleges.
As always, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan did not know any of the questions in advance and for over two hours he delved into a myriad of topics with divinely inspired answers. Hundreds of questions were sent via Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and email from around the country and parts of the world. He only answered a small portion of the questions submitted and at the conclusion of the townhall he stated: “I want to thank, first, the staff that made this night possible. I want to thank all of those who worked to gather all the questions—I heard there are 800 questions. Well, I usually answer 75-80 in an hour-and-a-half, because you’re tweeting, so you don’t make long answers. But, I want to say to all of you that sent questions: I will not rest until every question that you asked, you’ll get an answer.”
I am a witness that the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan made his word bond and eventually answered every single question that was submitted! All Praise is due to Allah!

The following questions were answered by The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan during the #AskFarrakhan Social Media Townhall Q&A delivered live via webcast from the historic Final Call Administration Building in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, September 26, 2012. The Townhall was moderated by Ashahed M. Muhammad, Former Assistant Editor of The Final Call Newspaper.

Ashahed Muhammad (AM): Linda Martin from Mississippi has submitted a question to us via Facebook: “I know the Nation of Islam has taught strongly against interracial dating and marriage. Has your perspective on this changed since the number of mixed couples seems to be growing?”
The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan (HMLF): No, our perspective has not changed. But there’s a reality in the country, and that reality is that when Elijah Muhammad, and Malcolm X, said “separate,” others said “integrate.” Martin Luther King Jr. didn’t advance integration. Martin Luther King Jr. was a man fightingfor equality and justice for our people. Integration became the over-arching theme of the Civil Rights Movement that the Civil Rights Movement didn’t necessarily give itself.
Well, what is integration? In the first part of that word is the word “integer,” and an integer is a whole number. And as you

know, there is an axiom that says “the whole is equal to the sum of its parts.” Now, take for example a pie: If you have four slices of bean pie, and four slices of apple pie, you don’t have a (whole) bean pie—you have four slices of bean, four slices of apple. Why isn’t it a whole pie? Because the parts don’t naturally belong. Again, the whole is equal to the sum of its parts. You have to belong to in order to be a part of.
So when Elijah Muhammad said “separation,” and then told us to respect and protect the Black woman, that she is the natural mate of ours, then the enemy did something and it’s written in the scriptures. He started fixing up that young Caucasian girl because she didn’t have the same form that she has today, now. I’m not trying to be funny. I used to hear Brother Khalid, when he described them; he described them as an “ironing board back,” you know? But today, they’ve got some back and they’ve been working on

that! (Smile) And since we are still not of the right-thinking mentally, it’s easy for us to be attracted to unalike (“unalike attracts”), so we call our self being in love. And maybe some of us really are in love. But the result of that is a mulatto, like myself or like some in this audience. Well, that’s still our people. I don’t care how much White blood you have, that drop of Black blood will fix you; and so, that’s a Black man. I was coming through the airport in Baltimore when one of the security guards said, “There’s a young lady here who wants to shake your
hand,” and when she came to shake my hand, she was a Caucasian woman. She took my hand, and she kissed my hand, and she said: “My son is of a marriage between me and a Black man, and I want to thank you for the way you are teaching my son”—for there is no way that a Muslim could teach the child of a White mother that he should dishonor his own

mother, or father; then, we will be going against both Bible and Qur’an (if we do so).
No, we want a Black man with a Black woman—but that is not always the reality. So what do you do about it? You either accept it, or reject it. And that’s still your people, so you might as well accept it, bring them on into the fold, and let them make their contribution to the rise of our people.
AM: Our next question came via Facebook from Pittsburgh by Lorraine Graves: “I thought it was strange that the Nation of Islam was using Dianetics. How has it benefited your followers? Do you think the Black community would be open to it?”
HMLF: You know, I found something that I felt would be helpful. A lot of Muslims that are in the mosque, male and female: We function well, but there are impediments because of things that happened in our

lives when we were young. The females in this audience: There are very few that have not been molested. What are the effects of incest on a young girl? What is the effect on a young boy who has been molested sexually by a family member? What is the effect on a Black child of a father that ran out on the mother—but the child looks just like the father, and the mother can’t take it out on the father but she says ugly things to the child? Well, these things don’t leave our being; these are things that are in our subconscious mind, but they affect our conscious reality.
So we [who] come into The Nation, we find a great Teaching, but I have wondered why we can’t handle authority, and be respectful of those under our authority. It doesn’t make any difference who you put in a position of authority: All of a sudden, when they’re called out of the ranks and they get a position, then their chest gets stuck out and they begin to act in a way that (suggests) “I am better than

my brother.” And when you think you are better, that’s when you become worse. I have seen this problem in The Nation. But it’s not just in The Nation, it’s in every Black organization: That the moment you elevate somebody into authority, then all these things that upset them when they were young, that they have not been dealing with, those things come up—but they come up in ways of abuse of others, misuse of authority, being so arrogant and self-conceited. This is real. So what I saw in Dianetics, I said, “This is a tool that I could use to help our people.”
Well, some said: “Hey man, that’s a White man, you know? You shouldn’t bother with that! This man (L. Ron Hubbard) was a racist!” I don’t know anything about that. But I know this: When I was a young Muslim, Brother Malcolm sent us to study Dale Carnegie’s “How to Win Friends and Influence People.” We paid the money, took the course; others took a course on Napoleon Hill’s “Laws of Success.”

People go where they go to get knowledge to come back and be better at service of others. Why do we go to college? We don’t ask the professor, “Uh, have you ever called somebody ‘nigga’?” You don’t ask them what their religious persuasion is. You’re in an economics class, you’re in a law class, you’re in a science class: You go there to get knowledge to develop yourself for the goal of your life. I don’t go there to become a Scientologist, I’ve got my religion. But I found a tool that is useful.
Now, you should ask the Muslims that have taken the course, and see what has happened. Why, there are sisters in the mosque that have been raped, several times; they didn’t tell anybody, they just functioned. But now, they are relieved of it. We had a pastor that we introduced to Dianetics (and he’s not a little lightweight pastor, but a great pastor), but in that session, he was forced to confront something that happened in his life.

Now, does that impede him from being a greater pastor? And I submit to you, that the impediments that we go through in our life: They’re like demons that Jesus has to exorcise from the people. And I’m telling you, I have seen the effect of this on those who didn’t even realize that was what was harming their development. So, I tell you: You know, you don’t have to follow Farrakhan in this; you go where you think you can get some knowledge— but then bring it back to help your people. Knowledge is everywhere. And knowledge is the possession of every human being. Claim it wherever you find it; use it for your betterment.
AM: Our next question comes from Mexico by Maria Angelica via email: “I also know you have visited Mexico, but when will you come to make yourself known to the Mexican people as the Representative of the Nation of Islam and your work here on Earth?”
HMLF: That’s an excellent question. And The Teachings 2.0 9

I will say: Soon, and very soon. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad put a part of his family in Mexico; they grew up in Mexico, they were educated in Mexico, they speak the language of the Mexican people. And the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, before he departed from us, sent money down to Mexico to buy an actual golf course to set up a Muhammad University of Islam in Mexico.
So, some of the students asked him, “Mr. Muhammad, what will you teach in Mexico?” He said, “I’ll teach them the same thing I teach you here”—and right now, in Mexico, there are students watching what we are saying. And believe me, Islam is beginning to grow in Mexico, and maybe you (Maria Angelica) will be the one to help bring it to the Mexican people, and we’ll support you in your effort.
AM: Our next question is from Fred Thompson in Atlanta, Georgia, via Facebook:

“I remember you said you were working on your album. What is the status of that album? Do you ever plan to re-master and re-release some of your old songs?”
HMLF: Yes! Yes! Yes, the album is just about finished! We have on that album some of the finest musicians in America, and some of the finest artists on that album. We just cut a song with Damian Marley. I took one of my old songs that I wrote, and we re-wrote it, and Damian and I are doing it together. Snoop Lion is on the album, and he wrote a song; it’s called “Let’s Change The World.” And his work was so great, that we made that the title of the album: “(Let’s) Change The World.” On that album is Chaka Khan; on that album is Stevie Wonder; on that album is Deniece Williams, Stephanie Mills. Oh, man! We’ve got Grammy artists on the album and Farrakhan is having a great time, musically. And yes, I intend to release some of my old songs that you have never heard. You didn’t even know

that Farrakhan had a voice, you know? But I did. But I used past tense “had”: I’ve been preaching so long. But yes, I intend to do that, and to leave it as something to inspire our young people.
And I will close with this, on that message: I would like to see the day that we would take our gifts, and as David the Psalmist said, “Praise God in the song, in the dance, in the poetry. Praise Him on the stringed instrument, on the lute, and the harp. Let everything be a praise of God”— and that’s what this album represents. So, watch for it. It’ll be out before the turn of the century. No! Next year! (Smile)
AM: Minister Farrakhan, Frank Scott from Portland, Oregon, via Facebook asks: “I am amazed how you stay on the move at your age. With all of your health challenges, what drives you to maintain such a rigorous schedule? Is your family ever concerned you’re overdoing it?”

HMLF: Oh yeah! There are a lot of people concerned that I’m overdoing it. And just keeping up with me, young people kind of get tired; so they want to know, you know, “What force drives you?” I’m in love. That’s real! “How do you mean you’re ‘in love’?” See, there were Two Commandments that Jesus gave that were more valuable and important than the Ten Commandments that Moses gave. He said, “On these Two Commandments hang all the law, and the prophets. The First Command: ‘Love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength.’” And that’s what’s keeping me going. I’m in love with The Creator; I marvel at The Majesty of His Creation.
Well, Jesus says then, “And the Second Command is like unto it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” And then some smart aleck said, “Well, Jesus, who is my ‘neighbor’?” and then he ran it down: “A man was traveling from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves who hit him in the head and robbed him of his raiment,

and a priest walked by on the other side. And The Levite came and looked at him and just shook his head, and kept going. But The Good Samaritan came where he was, poured oil in his wound; bound up his wound; took him to an inn keeper, gave the inn keeper two pence and said, ‘If it’s more than what I have given you, I will repay you on my return.’” Then Jesus asked, “Which one of these men did the neighborly thing?”
That’s why I’m out in the streets. That’s why I’m not tired of serving, not just my people but all oppressed people on the planet. Love is The Force. The stronger you love the more pure your love. See, you’ll have no fear for the consequences of telling the Truth. Love gives you courage. Love makes you brave. Love drives a woman to go into a burning house to get her child. “Greater love has no man that he lay down his life for his friend, for his brother”—that’s the way Farrakhan wants to live. I don’t want

to go out of this world like a wimp, you know, getting weak and compromising who I am and what I represent. I want to die stronger than when I started. And I’m calling on everybody to be like Farrakhan. Don’t become a wimp! Stand up for what you believe is right! And don’t fear the consequences of man when you stand up for God and His truth. If it means death, then face death; if it means prison, then face prison. Whatever it means, stand up—and die when you don’t have nothing better to do.
AM: Brother Minister, our next question is from Greg Washington from Indiana, via Facebook: “Do you think Muslims were hated in America long before 9/11, and that incident only exposed it?”
HMLF: Some people hated Islam before 9/11. But Islam was growing in America at a phenomenal pace before 9/11; there were mosques in cities and towns across the country, and the Muslims were at

peace with the communities. But after 9/11 propaganda started, talking about “the evil of Muslims,” and as a result, then hatred began to develop for Muslims— and it is intensifying now. And that is also written in the scriptures but that, too, will pass. The Holy Qur’an says that Allah will give us security in exchange for our fear, and He will “establish our religion.” Even in America, Islam will be established, so just bear patiently what people say, and don’t respond in an ignorant way.
I look at Jesus in this way: Here was a man who came to save people, yet, they hated him without a cause. And when they lied, and the Disciples wouldn’t come to bear witness of his greatness, when he was on that cross, according to the scripture, he said: “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Now, a lot of people who are desecrating mosques and synagogues, they think they’re doing the right thing, but they don’t know the consequences of their actions. The

people that put Jesus on that cross: They thought they knew what they were doing; but in reality, they didn’t really know the consequences of their actions. And so, I don’t think we need to act foolishly.
Wise people, when you really have a Cause, you can take a lot. In fact, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad said to me before he left, “Brother, Master Fard Muhammad told me ‘Take plenty. Take plenty.’” So here I am, trying to do The Work of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. I’m not always loved for it; I’m not always well-spoken of for what I am attempting to do, but, I take it! And I don’t respond evil for evil. I know that you condemn me out of your lack of knowledge or understanding of the man that you think you have condemned righteously. I give you the thought that you are condemning me because you think you are right in your condemnation—I give you that! But God knows my heart. God knows and He is a Witness of me, as He was a Witness

of all the prophets. They condemned all the prophets. But did the prophets stop doing good? No.
One of the things that Elijah Muhammad said to me one day: “Brother, they say a lot of ugly things about you!” I didn’t say anything. He said, “But you are just like myself: You just keep on doing good.” Good eventually outweighs evil. And if you know you are not what people think you are, keep on doing good. Good will ultimately triumph over evil. May Allah bless us to adopt that kind of spirit. And you know what? That will lessen the idea that when somebody disagrees with you, you have to fight them. That’s why ElijahMuhammad took guns and weapons out of our hands; because when you have a disagreement with a family member, with your friend, with your brother, and it gets to a boiling point, what is the first thing you reach for? You reach for a gun, or reach for a knife but you don’t reach up into your head, with a rational mind, to sit

with your brother and discuss the things about which you disagree.
Father Pfleger? Where is my brother? Father Michael Pfleger is here. Last Saturday, Father Pfleger and thebasketball community had a basketball game at St. Sabina, and four different gangs played on a team against the other. Now that was dangerous. (Smile) But Father Pfleger’s faith removed any fear of trouble occurring. The Muslims were there with him; but basketball players Isaiah Thomas, Joaquin Noah, Derek Rose, they came. And after that ball game, those young men, according to what Father Pfleger told me, they sat, they talked, and the tears rolled down their eyes. Don’t you ever think that these young men and women want to stay on the path that they’re on. But somebody’s got to care for them, and go after them and show them that there is a better way.

He has a program called Amer-I-Can; and he has a documentary that I want all of you young people in this audience to see of the work that Jim Brown and Amer-I-Can are doing. And the young people—now, I’m talking about people you think are hardened criminals, but deep down inside, man, they are the Malcolm Xs of this day. HMLF: Unfortunately, when you are a part of a drama that is not good, you are also a part of the consequences of what that drama brings. Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, others: It is unfortunate, but war is coming; and when The War unfolds, every man will get his due. And I pray that Allah will have mercy on those of us who have made mistakes, because we all have, and I pray that Allah will forgive those of us who have made these mistakes. But I will

All the things that are going on are disrupting tyrannical rules and even good rules that are upset producesconsequences. Gadhafi had an ordered society. Ambassador Stevenson could go anywhere in Libya, and he wouldn’t be harmed when Gadhafi was in power. When Saddam Hussein was in power, Brother Akbar and I were in Iraq, and Sunni and Shia and Christians and Jews lived together. Their churches, their mosques, were not harmed. But when the enemy came, then we became divided more so than ever. He exploited our divisions, so the whole Middle East is upset. And as Muslims, when we disagree, The Qur’an says when two Muslims disagree, Allah says through The Prophet: “Make peace between them; and they are not Muslims until they accept your judgment, and find no straitness in their breasts.”
When we were in Iraq trying to stop a war, the American soldiers were already in Kuwait, and 700 ulema (scholars of Islam) were in Baghdad; and I said to those scholars: “You are Muslims! You have a disagreement with Saddam Hussein; Saddam Hussein has a disagreement with Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Well, what does this Qur’an say? If Muhammad is not here to settle the differences between Muslims, what are the scholars supposed to do who stand in the place of The Prophet?” I said (to them), “Empower

And I’ll tell you, when God sends a man to you, and that man gives you good counsel, and you reject it, then there are consequences that you ultimately will face.

HMLF: Don’t give up! Those who are doing your nails have locked that market up. Those who are selling you hair have locked it up. There were Blacks that were in this business, but the unity of

And why should they, when you are allowing them to do for us what we should’ve been doing for our self?

HMLF: President Obama is the first president since George Herbert Walker Bush who resisted Israeli pressure. Although George H.W. Bush threatened Israel, that if they didn’t stop their settlements and whatnot, and violations of the rights of the Palestinians, he would not give them some of the taxpayer money that taxpayers give Israel each and every year: Well, he only had one term (in office). You do not do that, and get away with it. Bill Clinton: If you recall, he refused to meet with an Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. The next thing you heard was Monica Lewinsky. And all of those who were involved in scandalizing Bill Clinton, they happen to be Zionists. When you don’t vote the way they think you should vote, there’s no such thing as forgiveness. Our brother that was the mayor in Oakland, Calif., that was in Congress, Brother Ron Dellums: He made a speech on the floor, and after he got off that speech he said, “I will not be re-elected again”; because once you take an opposite position, you have to pay a price.
President Obama has resisted meeting with current Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu; and, he has resisted drawing a line, a red line in the sand with respect to Iran. I think he’s going to win this election. I do believe in spite of Black people being somewhat disappointed, Black voters feel, “We don’t have any other choice”—and maybe if we give him a second term, knowing that he can’t come back anymore, he may venture out to do a little more for the community that has done so much to put him where he is. But unfortunately, I believe that that pressure will be so great, that war will

come with Iran. And I pray that he will resist, but I think, soon, we may be at war with Iran.
AM: Our next question is from Dwayne Wilson in New Jersey via Facebook: “I’m down with you hitting the streets, but how can you expect brothers to stop selling drugs when there are no jobs? Will the treasury you’re going to set up help to hire us?”
HMLF: Yes, brother, I know that it’s difficult out there. One of the brothers that I met, he said to me: “Farrakhan, what brings you out here?” I said, “I came to see about you.” He said: “I don’t have no job. I don’t have no money. I’m doing what I do to survive.” You can’t go to our people expecting them to say no to drugs when their next meal, and the meal of their fathers and mothers, and brothers and sisters, may depend on that. You will take them off of drugs when you have something to offer them that replaces it.

So, I’m going to close with this... You know, Joseph Kennedy—I think he used to sell booze during Prohibition: He made a lot of money selling booze. But then his booze money, I guess he laundered it, because all of a sudden now he became owner of territory, buildings. But first, he became ambassador to the United Kingdom, then his sons went to college. He was hoping Joseph Jr. would become president, but he was killed. But Jack (JFK) became president. Bobby became a senator, and Teddy became a senator. But nobody talks about the money that was parlayed from unrighteousness to make his children have a better life. Meyer Lansky was like that: Tremendous criminal; brilliant Jewish man. And he died with honor. He supported Israel with criminal money. Now, I’m not suggesting that we should be criminals—but, it sure would’ve been nice if they didn’t find all of Frank Lucas’ money in that dog shelter or whatever. (Smile) And if Lucas could have taken that money and said, “I’m going to

open up a factory and put Black people to work,” well, I’m sure they would have arrested him, like I’m sure they would arrest some of our dear brothers who are selling drugs.
But we’ll be coming back into the community, with a program for your elevation. We’re not going to leave you like you are; we’re coming to make it better. But Father Pfleger, when he sat down with the gangbangers, I was told he had 28 jobs that he had to offer them. And we’ve got to be able to offer our people something in order to take them out of the life that they have. So we’re going to come up with a way, a program, where government can help us—and you should help us—to put our people to work in a positive way. So we’ll be talking about that soon.
AM: Our next question is from Solomon in New York, via Twitter: “I am pushing for a repeal or replacement of the 13th Amendment.” He

asks if you have any thoughts on this?
HMLF: Yes, I do. The 13th Amendment is an amendment that made us quote-unquote “citizens” (and the 14th Amendment). But the 13th Amendment has a sentence in it that we are “citizens” as long as we do notcommit a criminal offense. The moment a Black man is convicted of a felony, his citizenship is gone. The rights of a citizen goes, the right to vote goes, the right to a decent job to feed your family goes. So when you get caught with a little crack cocaine, they use that. That is a felony. Reefer, a certain amount of it, a felony. And when they take our young people and stop and frisk them and they find you with a gun, that’s a felony. They find you with drugs, then that could be a felony. Then they add to it: “You resisted arrest. You did this...”—so many charges. And before you know it, you’re imprisoned; then, you become a slave again, back into slavery. They call it the prison industrial complex. This is real. So many of our young men

and women are being deprived of their citizenship, so-called citizenship, under that part of the 13th Amendment.
But I’d like to ask this: They never asked us, when we came out of slavery, whether we wanted to be citizens. So maybe before you change the Amendment, let’s wake our people up, and ask them (the U.S. government)—since they don’t have nothing else for us to do, and there is no future for us: Why don’t we ask them to let us go, and give us a good sendoff? And that’s what the scripture teaches, that God had already promised theChildren of Israel a land “flowing with milk and honey.” That’s not back there in the past, that’s now! So we need to think about these things, because right now your citizenship rights are violated. You are violated. There’s no future that America has planned—even for the poor, so that all of this election the focus is on the middle class.

The Middle Class: Well, who is that? That’s not the people I’m walking out in the street to meet, because that’s the poor, that’s the homeless; they are those who live in shelters. Who will look after them?
We’re going to put the book A Torchlight For America out with a modern update of it and I think instead of just a torchlight, I would like to hold up my arm as the new Statue of Liberty. Give us your tired, your poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free. Send these, the homeless, tempest, tossed, to us, because we will be lifting our lamp beside a golden door. If the government doesn’t have anything for our people to do, give them to us. We know we can change them into a reality, that you’ll tip your hat at them when you see them. And I’ve got help to do it, with Jim Brown, Father Pfleger, the brilliant people that are in this country. We’ll make something out of our people. HMLF: Sure!
Rhymefest (hip hop artist, philanthropist, politician): Brother Minister, I brought 20 young men with me. One young man was shot, 16 years old, blind, but he’s going to college to become a social worker for other young men; one young man was an orphan; and one young man just got out of prison— did a felony. All these young men are in high school, trying to make something of themselves, get out of the neighborhood, get out of the conditions that they’re in. But then, one of the questions I have is: Are we, as Black

people, in a civil war? I’m starting to feel like, in our communities—I’m not no longer [talking about] White people, you know, I’m trying to help them get away from bad influences that look like them. So, I’m beginning to think that we’ve been in a civil war, and we have to fight our own condition within us, and I just wanted to ask what you felt about that.
HMLF: Well, you’re right. Fratricide is a civil war. We are killing each other in unprecedented numbers. And the Book speaks of the kind of heart that we have; that we would shoot one another down, and then go sit in a Wendy’s or McDonald’s and eat a burger, and feel like we haven’t done anything. That’s a cold, hard heart. But that is not hopeless, for the scripture teaches (God talking): “I am going to take out of you a heart of stone, and I am going to give you a heart of flesh.” Think about this, my dear brother...

HMLF: Think about Jay-Z. Think about the great artists that have become multi-millionaires. Some have become billionaires. Think of our basketball players, our football players, our artists; they have monies, but they are advised how to use their money--not by us. But think about all of them coming together, and pooling some of the millions that they have. How many factories could we produce that these young men would have jobs, and grow these young men to manage business? Their future is very bright, but the unity of all of us is the answer to 95 percent of our problems. So we have to stop the fratricide. That’s why we’re in the community, saying, “Put the gun down! You don’t need to harm yourself and one another!” That is social engineering. Once you wake them up to what the enemy is doing to us; using us

as a tool of their scheme. Once we come up out of that, then self-determination, self-respect, self-love begins to generate in these young men!
These are young men that are under the tutelage of Kanye West. Now, that is a good man, doing a good work, but that work needs to be multiplied by hundreds of times. And it can’t be done unless that quality of artists unites! And that’s why they keep making you to see me as an anti- Semite, because no Black artist becomes rich without having a friendship with the Jewish community. So, to make the world think that I am an enemy of Jewish people, then these kinds of people would stay away from the guidance that we could give, some of them. But, ultimately, we’re all going to have to come together to work out this problem, because I don’t think government will ever be able to solve that problem for us. We’re going to have to solve it for ourselves.

Sister Kenya Muhammad: As-Salaam Alaikum. You actually just led perfectly into my question which was: “Why do you think that this current generation is the most fearless ever produced? And what do you think will come from us?”
HMLF: What will come from this generation is the total liberation of our people. First, you have to produce a generation that you disconnect from Pharaoh’s product. I want you to listen carefully to what I’m saying, because some of our elders are so engrossed in that which the slave master has taught of them; that they want to impose that kind of thinking on the young generation. So the young generation is rebelling against their elders! So elders, we have to ask the question: Why are our children rebelling against us? What is there about us that our young people are displeased with? And let me tell you what they’re displeased with, if you don’t mind.
We went to college. We got degrees. How

many factories did we open to give them a future? How many farms do we own that produces good food that’s in our supermarket in our community? What kind of transportation have we developed? What kind of hospital have we erected? Baptists have hospitals. Jewish people have hospitals. Catholics have hospitals. Where is the Black hospital? See, we’re waiting for somebody else to do these things! So when these young people look around and see that they don’t have anything, and all that we, as parents, can offer them is a home outside the ’hood that some of us escaped, and got a nice home in a nice part of town—where we’re living with our former slave masters’ children. Yes. So, now we’re about to die, so I make my will, but I’m not willing anything to you but a house; or, I’m not willing anything to you but a debt. [We even say] “I can’t even give my child the good car that I’ve got because he doesn’t have any money to keep it up.”

So, children are angry now. And it’s not that they are wrong, it’s that we took our eye off the prize. And the prize is always our children; the prize is always to let your children know the bitter road that you came across to bring them here. But our children don’t know the real struggle of their parents and their grandparents, and their great-grandparents. And nobody is telling the story. We got so engrossed because we could vote now, we could go downtown, we could sleep in a hotel, a motel. We can do all these wonderful things—and then, our hotels close down, our motels close down, our bus companies close down, our insurance companies close down.
Is this what integration did? It robbed us of what our own dollars did when we had to put our money in our own community. We dropped the ball. So now, our young people are like wandering in the wilderness. They’re waiting for The Voice of God. See, they don’t want to hear the

elders. They’re sick of preachers. They’re sick of the pimping attitude of those leaders and teachers. They’re sick of it! And, they should be. But while they’re in this condition, remember the scripture. God had some land for those Children of Israel—but they were so cowardly: There were giants in the land. So they said to Moses and Aaron, “We ain’t goin’ in that land! You and your God clean up the giants, then we’ll go in!” So God looked at the elders and said: “You go ahead. I’m going to let you wander in The Wilderness, and I’m going to take your children, and they will inhabit The Promised Land.” God can’t use you with the mind of your former slave masters. You’ve got to have a new way of thinking to be useful to God, and useful to yourself and your people. So when that Mind comes into these young ones, then they will liberate the whole.
Why do you think in every city in America the police are after our young people; throw them down on the ground, search

Our work is with our people. Our Work is not to be afraid of our youth. THEY ARE OURS! THEY CAME FROM US! And when I look in their eyes as I walk these streets, I see the fierceness in their eyes. That’s a different group of people, now. They’re different from the college fellow. That’s a great generation.
But your college brothers: Imagine linking them with the fearless, strong men coming up out of our community? Then you’ve got the colt and the ass that Jesus needed to build The Kingdom.

Q: Out of all the surahs in the Holy Qur’an, which ones do you think are very key for us to study in the day and time that we’re living in?
HMLF: Study The Book from cover to cover: It is a guide for those who wish to shun evil and to do good, and it is a preparation for the life of the world to come. So no one surah is necessary, all are necessary! The Oft-Repeated Surah is Al-Fatihah (Chapter 1: “The Opening”) because it contains the key to all these surahs; that is why it becomes The Oft- Repeated Prayer of the Muslims.
Study The Qur’an, all of it, for all of it is a shield, a buckler and a protection for us in such a time of trouble as this.
Q: If you say being a good Christian is being a good Muslim, well why do we have so much difficulty in recognizing that?
HMLF: Because of a lack of understanding The Teachings 2.0 49

on both sides, Muslims and Christians. If we truly understood Christ and Jesus, we would know that he submitted entirely to do The Will of God. And so did Muhammad. So if you’re a good Christian and a good Muslim, both are submitting their will to do The Will of God; and therefore, they should be brothers.
Q: How did God come to know mercy when it was not necessary for Him to experience it?
HMLF: He was created in that nature of mercy. And since He is God, and Creator of all things, then the things that He created would be in need of His grace, His provision, His mercy—so He Himself is Mercy!
Q: How can one apply the theoretical phrase of scripture that says perfect love casts out fear? How does that look in action?

loves God, loves truth, loves The Apostle of God, and loves The People of God. Do you see any man on the scene speaking as fearlessly as I? Then you are looking at that love, that perfect love that casts out fear.
Q: When you seek to forgive those who despitefully abuse you, and talk about you behind your back and say all this evil, what is at the core of your forgiveness of those people?
HMLF: It is my knowledge that one day, if they live long enough, they will repent of what they say and come into submission. It is written in the scriptures that God would make all my enemies my footstool.
Q: I’m losing my faith day-by-day, and the anger I have towards God is only growing, and I just don’t know what to do. Have you ever gone through this? And if so, can you advise me on how to change my course of

HMLF: There is no life that God creates that does not suffer misfortune, trials and struggle; this is how God makes manifest who we are to ourselves and to others. If you begin to look at what God has done for you, rather than what circumstance have done to you, you will come past those misfortunes and circumstances into the brightness of a brand new day for yourself, and your attitude toward God will change.
Think about this: No one has given gifts to you greater than what God has given. He has given you life! He has given you eyes to see His creation. He has given you ears to hear. He has given you a tongue to speak, and a brain to think to direct your hands to creative action to change any present reality. So when you think about God’s gifts, your attitude will absolutely change. Do you love your mother? She is a gift! Do you love your

father? Do you love your teachers? Do you love those who have shown you love? All of them are Gifts of God. So be grateful, and your attitude toward Him will change.
Q: If one-third of the Bible is historical and two-thirds is prophetic, from what I’ve been told you all say, then how much of the Holy Qur’an is historical, and how much is prophetic? Were you ever taught these percentages?
HMLF: Well, two-thirds of The Qur’an is based on the faith of the religion, and one-third is based on fulfillment and guidance in building a nation. The Hon- orable Elijah Muhammad said that much of what you read in the Bible is giving you a prophetic picture of the end time, and much of what you read of Jesus of 2,000 years ago is a sign of what The Jesus that appears at the end of Satan’s time will do.

Q: I was very excited and elated about the appointment of The Nation’s first imam. Is this the start of you producing many more?
HMLF: That is correct.
Q: Peace from The Nation of Gods and Earth, my brother! I wanted to know your perspective on this question I have: In The (Supreme Wisdom) Lessons, what is meant by when it says ‘when the Planet was found’ (in the Answer to Lost-Found Muslim Lesson No. 1, Question No. 4)?
HMLF: It means after the deportation of moon from the Earth, the pocket, or the sphere of rotation of the Earth that was new. It means that part of the Earth, Mecca, when the planet was found in that new orbit 66 trillion years ago. The planet Earth begins with God Himself.
Q: Why does God permit evil thoughts to be made manifest?

HMLF: We were living, and are living, in the time that evil was to dominate our planet. Jesus gave a parable of the wicked husbandmen that the Earth was let out into their hands. Q: Is getting physically strong very important to having a strong spirit?
HMLF: Getting physically strong will give you more energy for your life, and that is good. But the real strength and power of the spirit that the scripture is talking about is the power that is bound up in the truth; that when you are in harmony with the truth, then the spirit of the truth becomes the power that guides your life, and governs your activity, and gives you the strength to overcome the impediments that are in the pathway of your progress.
A strong body should lead to a strong spirit—but you can exercise, you can eat well, and have a strong body, but if you don’t know the truth and live in accord

Q: I recently saw that some of your mosques are selling bean chips. My goodness. You all are addicted to beans! What is it about this navy bean that’s got you all making everything out of it?
HMLF: It should be a study for you. Go and look up the science, the nutrients, the benefit, of that navy bean; and then you’ll be able to teach us about the bean chips and the bean pie, and the bean soup. Some have even tried to make bean ice cream. And sometimes we can get so creative, we take a thing a bit far! And you’ll find the people levitating from the gas. (Smile)

Q: I have about two years left in medical school and I have a war going on in my mind deciding between working for this corrupted medical world in trying to create change in it or starting my own practice immediately in providing Holistic treatments to our people. Which route do you think I should go?
HMLF: I think you would be wise to pray on that and whatever the spirit of God in answer to your prayer guides you to do follow that. We are desperately in need of doctors. May God bless you to make the best decision for your life and for those whom your medical life will serve.
Q: I recently read How To Eat To Live on The Final Call site—but my mother is giving me a hard time. Did your mother give you a hard

time about stop eating pork? If so, how did you handle it respectfully?
HMLF: Yes, she gave me a hard time, because I was raised on pork. So, I gently handled my mother. She’s only acting like that because she does not know; and she reared you like my mother reared me: Eating what she thought was best. Go to the library and get writings on the trichinae worm that is in the pork, and just leave it for mom to read. And when she reads it, then you can give her an experiment with a piece of pork: And then leave it under a glass for a few days, and watch those critters start moving about. I don’t think she’ll want to eat that anymore! (Smile) But, be gentle and kind, always, to your mom.

Q: Do you think it would be a good idea, with your blessings, if we as brothers opened up several rehab centers for our people and offered them Dianetics for the healing process?
HMLF: If—as the Honorable Elijah Muhammad said, “If there are six or eight of you like-minded, and you wish to open up a business...”—now you’re using Dianetics, as a tool, to help those addicted with drugs: You must be careful; because there is money now that can come to you for so doing. But never let the lust or need for money corrupt the process that you are learning, and the tool that you wish to use.
Q: How and what should a Believer do in The Mission after having a stroke or a heart

HMLF: The first thing is to get well. One cannot attend to serious duty when one is under severe stroke or heart attack. So God would never impose on any soul a duty beyond its scope; so when someone has suffered a stroke, or a heart attack, duty is postponed, because now your first duty is to preserve and protect the life that God has given you. So, do what is necessary so that that heart attack won’t take you away from us. Do what is necessary to retrieve yourself from the effect of a stroke. Then gradually you may assume the duty that is yours.
Q: Do you know how Mother Clara got cancer?

HMLF: No, I don’t. I hear that she had an affliction before she met Master Fard Muhammad and by following His Teaching, she was cured of it.
And sometimes stress of what you do, and circumstances that come up in one’s life, are stressors to the point where an illness that we once conquered could come back. So, the great medicine that you take to fight off illness and disease: Always remember that stress also is a great killer of human beings. And that’s why I said the greatest Gift of God is peace and contentment of mind.
Q: Why did you purchase your own farm and what has it done for your health?

He purchased a 400-acre farm in Cassopolis, MI which was his farm while he had utilized the nickels, dimes and dollars that we gave him to purchase 5,000 acres in Georgia; 9,000 acres in Alabama; 20,000 acres in Honduras. Well I thought in following my teacher that I would build in Michigan and purchase a farm. I can’t eat everything that a farm will produce and its small acres but if those acres are made productive it can’t just be for me it has to be for others. So, I’m very grateful.
What has the farm done for me? He has given me a place to repair, to come out of the city, to communicate with God through being close to nature. To watch life grow, come to birth grow, then watch it age and die, in animals, in bushes, in

flowers. To watch how the earth responds to sunlight and water and a good seed. And to work to take away the toxicity of the earth and to love the earth that the earth may reward us for loving it by giving us a good crop from which we gain life and health. That’s the blessing that we received from owning a little land. And I will advise you and others put your little nickels, dimes and dollars together and get some land on which you can grow some food for yourself, your family, your community. Q: I have realized that my family eats too much fast food. How can I wean us off of this and get back to eating right?
HMLF: Well, I hope you’re a good cook, because if you cook one of those great

Q: I’ve heard you talk a lot about Will Allen and that we should research him. I wanted to know: What is the most amazing thing you’ve learned from him?
HMLF: He taught us how to create soil. We are in the process now of doing just that. And the soil that we are creating is so toxic-free, that what will come from that soil will give us all the vitamins and minerals that are necessary to keep our bodies in the best of health.

Q: I’m finding that as I get older, I’m becoming more and more uncomfortable being around people, and finding more solitude in being away from them, particularly in my own personal worship. Do you think this is proper for a human being? If not, can you give me some suggestions?
HMLF: I, in my development, used to rent a room in a hotel, pull down all of the shades, lock myself in, and fast and pray, and study, to come out of that room to deliver a message to our people. Solitude is good. But “staying away from people” because you’re spiritually developed, and developing, is not good. Because what are we developing spiritually for if not to share the value of our spiritual experience with others, that they, too, may grow as we?

Q: What do you think about young girls. Jr. M.G.T. and Jr. Vanguard, wearing makeup?
HMLF: It’s a trend. The most beautiful skin is the skin that is clean, and bright; and you see The Light of God coming through that skin. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad did not advise makeup. But, if that’s what you think makes you more attractive: Well, you’ll do that until something better of Knowledge comes to you. The wearing of makeup is not the most important thing. The important thing is: Have you accepted The Righteous Conduct of an M.G.T. & G.C.C., or a Vanguard? If you have, you soon will know how beautiful you are by being your natural, beautiful self.

Q: My father told me real Muslims don’t eat meat, and that the Holy Qur’an tells us not to eat the dead animal. So, should we eat meat? Or should we stop?
HMLF: Real Muslims believe in Allah, and follow the Sunnah of The Prophet, and obey The Teachings of the Holy Qur’an. Real Muslims can eat meat—the only meat you are forbidden to eat is The Divinely Prohibited of the khanzier (pork, pig, hog); and the scavengers of the sea.
However, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught us, and soon we will come to see, that no meat is good for us—but it doesn’t mean that you are not a Muslim if you eat meat. But if you want to live a longer life, then you will gradually give up the eating of meat, and eat fruits

Q: My husband and I seem to fight about the finances at home all of the time. How did you and your wife settle disputes where money was concerned?
HMLF: We didn’t have much of that to fight over; so, we agreed that we were not going to put ourselves in debt. I was taught to be a man and I never wanted a man to come to my house to take anything out of my house because I owed on it. So what little money we had, we saved, and when I had enough to buy what I wanted, and what we wanted, we bought it. I wasn’t ashamed to buy used things until I could afford new, but everything in my house, we owned. So there was never an argument over money. And you’ll find that if you live within your means, and come together as one to plan what you

wish to do with your finances, you’ll have less arguments and more success.
Q: When you sat down with your sons and explained to them that this society does not value their lives, what did you tell them? I feel I need to have this talk with my son.
HMLF: I think a good knowledge of the history of our sojourn will show them the forces that put us in slavery, kept us in slavery, and even to this very moment plot against our true liberation. The books, The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews (Vols. 1 & 2), will go a long way in teaching that history.
Q: When we’re marrying an individual and we’re striving to become one, does that mean that we should lose our individual

personalities and take on the qualities of our mate in order to become one?
HMLF: No. It only means that there is a struggle, when we marry, to become one. You don’t lose yourself in the other, but you lose those things that prohibit you from becoming one. But you will still be you. God has never asked you to relinquish who you are, because that’s why you all fell in love with each other in the first place. But over time, there are things that are a part of us that may bring displeasure to our mates. And after looking at those things: Can we adjust? Can we get rid of bad habits if those habits keep us from becoming one? Can we sit down and reason with each other, spiritually and mentally, and agree on how we move forward as a team?

Of course we can. But you never ask a woman to be a man, and you never ask a man to be a woman; you ask those natures to complement each other in the best way.
Q: What has it been about your marriage that divorce has never been an option for you and your wife? It seems that me and my spouse have gotten to that point.
HMLF: Then count yourselves among the blessed. There are always things in a marriage that can lead you to divorce, but the staying power of marriage is that you find a way to overcome the things that have a tendency to pull you apart. It does not mean that everything in the marriage is agreeable; it means that you agree more than anything you disagree

Q: I grew up fatherless, and I heard you recently talk about the strength of your mother as a single mother, but I wanted to know: Did she ever, at any time, sit and talk to you about your father directly?
HMLF: As long as I knew my mother before she passed, she never sat down and discussed with me my father. Near the end of her life, she went to an old trunk and brought out a package of his letters to her, with a ribbon around those letters, and she gave me one of them that I might read and see my father’s handwriting, and come to see what kind of mind he

had with respect to her. Though I never knew my father, have no real memory of him, I honor him. Because without his sperm, placed at the right time in the womb of my mother, it would not have germinated this life, that I could serve God, and serve our people, and become the human being that I am yet becoming for The Glory of God.
Q: Okay, I heard you all in the Nation of Islam say that we should not use nicknames. Why is that? And why is calling somebody, particularly a family member, a nickname a bad thing?
HMLF: “Old Nick” is another name for The Devil. The Qur’an says, “evil is a bad name after faith,” and coming up under such we are prone to do such, and that

is why we use nicknames. Once you name your child, use the name that you give your child. We’ve come up under those that are called “the goats” of the scriptures—so we call our children kids. They are not little goats (mischief- makers); they are your children, not kids. When you come up under God, you don’t need nicknames.
Q: You said that your teacher, Elijah Muhammad, said that pregnant women should stay away from funerals. Does this include their parents’ and siblings’ funerals as well?
HMLF: Well, of course these things that promote overbearing sorrow hurt the development of that which is growing in the womb. The death of a sibling or

a parent in itself brings overwhelming sorrow. But, to be in a place where sad songs are sung, and people are falling out: That’s a decision that the father and the mother of that new life should make.
Q: I have a son who has a tremendous warrior spirit. How do I, as a mother, correct, train and redirect him without breaking that spirit?
HMLF: It is God Who has brought from the womb of women the greatest soldiers and generals and warriors on our planet. So, when you see in your child the spirit of a warrior, guide him, train him; never try to break him. And make him a warrior in The Cause of Truth against falsehood, right against wrong, justice against injustice.

Q: I have a family member who has betrayed me on multiple occasions. Is it wrong for this malice that I hold in my heart towards them?
HMLF: Evil deeds produce evil results. You are not wrong; however, we must rise above the pain of evil to continue to do good, in hopes that the good that we say or do will turn the heart of one who is a betrayer. But remember, the scriptures warned us that in this Time: It is a Time of Betrayal. So be guided, by the actions of others, to stay away from that which will betray you, hoping, however, that such one will become convicted of the truth, and come and repent, and ask forgiveness.
Q: How do you convince a mother to not

cripple her child through coddling and shielding it from responsibility?
HMLF: Some of us have never received an abundance of love, so sometimes when a child is born, and a mother missed something in her life, she overcompensates for it in the coddling of the child. To coddle means to treat in an indulgent or over-protective way. Some of us have never felt protected. And some of us have been mistreated by those who have the authority to protect us, so sometimes when we get in a position we over-compensate. I was so strict with my children; they never went to the corner store to buy candy. If there was candy to be made, we made it. We made our own ice cream. We made our own bread. So when some of my children had their

children, they over-compensated. So they absolutely became not only “The Tooth Fairy,” but The Tooth Destroyer! (Smile); only later to learn, “Well, Mommy and Daddy had it right.”
It is good for the child to know that it is loved and to feel the warmth and love of a parent, but this should never stop us from guiding our children to accept responsibility for their words and their actions. May Allah guide, bless and protect you, and the mother who is coddling her child.
Q: I’m divorced, and I wanted to know your guidance on how could I lighten the emotional effect on my children?

Q: Young people are striving to develop ourselves inside of organizations that have been around for a long time. What’s the key ingredient for us to not get swallowed up by the pressures of taking over the mantle of those before us?
HMLF: There is always pressure in any position of leadership. But the more prepared and qualified we are to step into those shoes, the more easily we will be able to handle the pressure. So, don’t think about the mantle, think about the qualifications necessary to wear the mantle.
Q: In looking at your last broadcast, and hearing that this guy Yakub finished all these schools at a young age and did something very powerful in my view. Is it

God’s Pattern to always pick prophets at a young age? And if so, what should this tell us about the youth?
HMLF: The Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught us that as the shortest distance between two points is a straight line, we waste too much time in education, when the children are ready to learn from the time they leave their mother’s womb. So, we start school early! And what that is a sign of is that we should be finishingour doctorate degree at 18 years of age, getting ready to go out on life’s road to practice what we have learned in theory. We just take too long to do something, spend too much money in doing it, and then end up producing people that are not as productive as they would like to be.

Q: I see a lot of my young peers, Brother Minister, constantly bragging, so to speak, about us being The Joshua Generation. What can you say to us to let us realize that it’s not enough for us to just say it—but that we need to be doing something?
HMLF: Well, the first thing is to say it. The second thing is to believe it. And the third thing is to act upon it. And the fourth thing is to inhabit The Promised Land.
Q: I confess, as a young student I have been battling with the inferiority complex that you have spoken about. Is the key ingredient in combatting is to have self-confidence? And if so, what should that self-confidence be rooted in?

true Knowledge of Self. Self-confidence is not arrogance; self-confidence is not vain, boastful expression. Self- confidence is knowing what we can do; what we can achieve. Q: I realize, and I admit, we as a church—and I believe maybe you all have this problem in the mosque—have failed to be a magnet anymore these days to get our youth to join our congregation. What methods can we use in our churches, our mosques, our organizations to start attracting our young people again?

HMLF: You would be surprised how young people are curious to know. We’re trying to attract them through song, through dance, through rap—and they love that. But if we mastered The Words of God, we would bring young people to the church, to the mosque, to our organizations by the hundreds.
Q: As a young Muslim in high school, how do I respond to teachers in my class who are knowingly teaching us lies?
HMLF: Well, if you challenge the lies of the teacher, you win the argument because truth will always defeat a lie. But then what? You have brought your teacher down in the face of the students; and so they will flunk you, or put you out. Go and get the knowledge that you went there

And if you wish to confront the teacher: Don’t do it in front of the class, but ask the teacher if you could have a private moment to talk to them, and tell them what you know against what they said. And then listen to their response. But if you shame someone in authority in front of those who are under authority, you invite their wrath.
Q: I’m not in the Nation of Islam, but I’m a new young Muslim who desires to one day to be a strong teacher of Islam. How can I be an effective teacher of our religion?
HMLF: I started by studying every word that the Honorable Elijah Muhammad wrote. And Brother Malcolm gave me my first Holy Qur’an. If you take The Qur’an and study it, and take the words

of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, and study them—and then study The History of The Prophets; for if you want to be a great man, you will walk in The Path of The Prophets of God. So, you must be prepared for what that entails. May Allah bless you to achieve your goal.
Q: I am a freshman Engineering student, and I’m also a basketball player. Do you think it’s wise for me to do both as long as I stay focused? Or do you think that basketball and sports is a distraction?
HMLF: Basketball and sports will be a distraction if we permit it. If you’re playing basketball allows you a scholarship to become a great engineer—which will give you a great future after basketball— then play basketball. But focus your best

energy on becoming a great engineer, and you will see that basketball and team sports, and the camaraderie that comes with it, teach great life lessons.
Q: I’m 21, and I found The Teachings early this year. It has changed my life. Can you give me a few encouraging words?
HMLF: The best words that I can give are the words that Master Fard Muhammad gave to all of us: “Accept Your Own and Be Yourself.” You have started on the road. Don’t look back or turn back. Keep going forward and you will ultimately be yourself which is a righteous Muslim.
Q: What advice would you give to the young people in The Nation of Islam who desire to be in posts or positions as Laborers? Should

that be our ultimate striving?
HMLF: No. Posts that are in the mosque are not posts in a Nation—that’s very limited. In a Nation, there is something for every human being to do. So as a young person: Develop yourself to the fullest. Find your purpose in life, then use that purpose for national development, because Nation will outlive individuals. And we only live through our service to the greater good of the greater number of people.
Q: So many of us young people grow up in the mosque together like family, but how should we conduct ourselves to make sure our interactions are proper with one another, and not wrong in the name of being family?

HMLF: There is a law that governs our behavior and our interaction with others. We are social beings, so we have to know how to relate to others in a way that would make peace between us— and progress based on that peace. When we violate ethics and morals, we injure the relationship in family; or injure relationships in school, or in the society. So, all broken relationships, or injured relationships, can be healed by the persons injured recognizing where they deviated from that which is right. And by accepting what is right, and doing what is right, the wound of yesterday is healed by today’s good.
Q: How can our young brothers and sisters that struggle to navigate through life

be successful if they are devoid of good examples where they grow up at?
HMLF: We always need good examples to pattern our lives after. Mother is the first teacher and through our mothers we learn our values. Most of the time we’re looking outside of the home for somebody to be our hero. But your hero, oft times, is the mother that brought you into the world, that with even limited knowledge—but some life experience—taught us values. She may not have been perfect in her example, but she was perfect enough for us at that stage of our development. But the more you are taught: Then you begin to reflect the values of the teachings that you are studying. If you didn’t have a good example, take the best of what mother did, the best of what father did,

the best of what grandma and grandpa taught you; then, stand on that.
And grow into that which Jesus The Christ, Muhammad The Messenger, and The Prophets taught. They have been, and are, the best examples for human development.
Q: I’ve seen mentorship programs started for Black boys many years, that start and stop so fast. How can we establish long- term mentorship programs for our Black boys? And what should at the root and the core of them to make them last?”
HMLF: Most mentorship programs are funded by outside forces that do not want God mentioned in the mentoring process. This automatically limits the

growth of those whom you are mentoring. The scriptures teach: “Ye are all gods, children of the Most High God.” How can you mentor a young god without connecting the nature of that young man, made in the image and likeness of God, to The God Who Originated his life? He’s a spiritual being, and becomes a mental and intellectual being. But if you don’t feed his spirit, you’ll start, you’ll stop— and the mentoring will cease—because you, the teacher, have run out of what it takes to mentor that child.
Q: As you raised your children before you got the Teachings, what were some of the things that you were teaching them to ensure that they would have good character?

was just a year and a couple of weeks old; so I had nothing to teach her—at that time. When I became a follower of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, under the tutelage of Brother Malcolm X, I then had something to teach my children. And I taught them what Elijah Muhammad taught us. And Brother Malcolm taught my No. 1 child [Sister Betsy Jean Farrakhan], on his knee, The Student Enrollment of The Nation of Islam. When you study The Teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, you have something valuable to teach your children.
Q: What is the difference between old folks and elders? And what is their job and role in organizing the young intellectuals today?

HMLF: The Bible teaches: “Old men for counsel. Young men for war.” In African societies, the elders are always loved, respected and admired, and listened to—not because they have a degree from the institutions of learning of the Western world, but they have life experience that allows them the wisdom of life that the young are not privileged to have by being young. So, it is the connection of youth to the elders who have lived, and made mistakes and fell into traps; that if we listen to the elders: We’ll make our mistakes, but it won’t be the same. So to separate us from the wisdom of life experience is to cause us to make many blunders in our life in the choices that we make.

Q: Do you think Master Fard Muhammad’s parents knew that He was Allah (God)?
HMLF: I don’t know about His mother—but His father knew; and went into different parts of the Earth to get bits of knowledge to give to his son that would ultimately grow Him to The Mission that He had. And that Mission involved conquering the wicked forces of an inordinate and wicked world; and saving and restoring a people that were destroyed by this world, and making them—qualifying them—to be The Cornerstone of a New World of Righteousness that would have no end.

Q: I love being a teacher, but I am so frustrated, because when a student walks in my class I have to deal with what they have dealt with at home. How can I really truly make an impact on my students this year to put them on a right course to civilize them?
HMLF: Well, I guess we have to deal with first things first: When they enter your classroom, and they are upset because

of what has happened at home, we then have to lift their minds from where they are, and give them the tools that you desire to give them in your class. When God blesses me to stand before an audience of people that come from many different walks of life, many different life experiences, having come to hear me with a lot of heaviness on their hearts, I have to, with The Help of Allah (God), lift them from where they are, and then feed them that knowledge that will allow them to rectify the thing that they brought in with them to the lecture. That is going to demand a lot from you, as a teacher—but it’s not impossible. HMLF: To the degree that we expand our economic base, we hire. It is not nearly what we would like it to be, because there are too many without jobs, and we have not grown strong enough. But, on the 24th of February, God Willing, we will present an Economic Blueprint given by Elijah Muhammad, which, if followed, will not only end poverty and want, but we will be a producing people that will allow us to create jobs for our people. HMLF: The battle in the sky is telling us that of course modern technology is advancing the capability of man to go out into space, and fight his enemies from space—but he cannot conquer from there; there is a greater power out there than his! But it also means that you could be walking the Earth, with an earthly mind, and you’ll never know that the battle is raging in the sky, meaning in the upper regions of those with high intelligence. Q: I know you backed Reverend Jesse Jackson in 1984, but since that time I rarely see you endorse political candidates. What does it take for you to actually come out and endorse somebody politically, or will that never happen?
HMLF: There are politicians that have value. Those that sincerely work for the good of the people are worthy to be

But no matter how good that politician or those politicians are, they are the minority, and they are not strong enough to effect the change that will make America what the people hoped for in America. Q: When the Honorable Elijah Muhammad put the United States map on Fall of America with fire coming up from it on the red and black cover, was he talking about a literal fire? Or was it metaphoric?
HMLF: It’s both literal and metaphorical. As fire burns everything that it touches

Q: Did you have a relationship, or know or ever talked to Tupac Shakur? Because when I listen to his music, and then listen to you on Saturdays, I hear your voice coming through him at times.
HMLF: I never was blessed to meet Tupac, but I met his mom, his dad, his uncle; we were friends. And the teaching that I taught from the Honorable Elijah Muhammad affected mom and dad, and uncle. And it’s natural growing up in a house of such revolutionary thinkers as his mother, father and uncle, that he, too,would be affected by those teachings.

So, just before Lent, it’s like getting all your demons out. You act as crazy as you wanna act, dance as wild as you wish to dance, and become as vulgar as you wish to become, and engage in sex orgies, and all of this. And then go to church on Ash Wednesday, and let the priest make the sign of the cross, and ashes on your forehead, and you walk around looking like, now, after raising so much hell for a couple of days, or three days, that now you are ready to try to live clean for 40 days—which never happens.

HMLF: Muhammad Ali was a boxer when he met the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. I have many, in The Nation, that are boxers. My grandson plays basketball. I don’t say to him he should not do it, because even in a society that’s completely righteous there will always be some events that test the physical strength and prowess of the individual. But the purpose of sport and play is not only to divert you from “The Time and What Must Be Done,” it’s to divert us from paying attention to the requirements that God imposes on every life that comes this way.

So, Ali used sport and when he got the name Muhammad Ali from the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, he traveled the entire world, inspiring people through not only the majesty of his physical prowess as a boxer, but through the majesty of the wisdom that he learned from the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. His greatness in sports attracted people to him by the millions; and his wisdom taught them by the millions. Q: Recently on his album, and in an interview that you may not have listened to or seen, Jay Z expressed that he was displeased with how Harry Belafonte went about critiquing him and his wife in regards to charity. What are your thoughts on this as a whole? Shouldn’t our elders be respected

HMLF: Of course, there’s always value in poetry. It depends on what you put down on the paper as a reflection of what is in your mind. I was recently in Tuskegee, and two young ladies read their poetry— and I have never heard poetry more beautiful. So write, and write well. Think on the good things of life and the struggle of life and write to encourage those to keep on moving toward the total liberation of our people. Our people love poetry. So be the best that you can be.
Q: When you were in show business what was one of the weirdest things you ever

HMLF: The weirdest thing was a ventriloquist who had a dummy made of wood and he got angry with the comedian and took the dummy and beat him up with the dummy. So when the police came to arrest him he said I didn’t do nothing the dummy did it. The police arrested him and the dummy. And the dummy’s name was JoJo. He said I didn’t do it JoJo did it. HMLF: It took time for me to understand why he did that. But as I looked at the universality of music, and particularly the classical music: I knew that the music was expanding my breast to take in more inspiration that would make me ready for The Universal Side of The Mission of The Nation of Islam.
Q: Would you ever think about allowing your life story to be brought to the big screen? I believe this could increase Islam greatly.
HMLF: I’m not interested in my life being on the big screen; I’m still living it. And, when a period comes to my life, which means I have transitioned, I’m gone,

Q: Why was it so easy for you to give up your life as an entertainer and become a helper of Allah? Did you worry, or was concerned at all about that decision?
HMLF: No, I was not worried or concerned after I made the decision. The ease with which I made that decision tells me that I was programmed by God to make that decision, for the decision that I made, and the work that I am doing, bears witness that I was born to do what I am doing. So that decision was a part of what I had to give up to become who and what I am today.

HMLF: Master Fard Muhammad knew the languages that connected to all the others. Plus, He knew how to tune in on the thinking of people—so, you only use language as a convenience. Because He spoke, He touched every inhabited part of our planet, so He communicated with people all over the Earth, most of them in their language. HMLF: Because we come from the same condition. Some of us that are in The Nation have been to prison, and found Islam in prison. Some of us have been to college, but we’re not morally clean. So, The Teachings doesn’t make one

Q: Would you like to see all of your major mosques and study groups around the country to have the same beautiful structure as Mosque Maryam?
HMLF: Oh, of course. These structures are fine, but if we go after beautiful structures and become ugly people then the ugliness of the people destroys the beauty of the structure. But if we go after

the people, and in the process, become beautiful: The beautiful people attract people. And then when the people are many, and they put their nickels, dimes and dollars together, then they can get a beautiful structure. And if structure is all we need, but we have been sent to a city to serve in The Mission: What structure in the city can hold the number of Black people that are in that city? Our job is The Resurrection of all our people and there is no one structure that can hold them. So, keep on teaching, and beautifying yourself, and you will be unalike in an ugly, unattractive world.

What is our role in the expansion and growth of Islam, as Native Americans?
HMLF: You have a great role, for the Native Americans are the only ones that have a wide expanse of land; and in some cases, great mineral strength under that land. The enemy has seen the value of your land, and is now on your land to extract the best of your land and give you little or nothing for what they extract. But in Islam, you will get stronger and stronger; more moral and correct in your lifestyle. Then through the unity between The Black and The Red: We will begin to take the land, and make it productive for you, for your children, for your children’s children, and force the government to respect that land and the treaties that have been signed by them
